Two color modes, that when used incorrectly can cost you money.
When working on a design two types of color spaces will change the outcome of your project depending on its use case.
CMYK
Also known as Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black for short, it is mainly used in printing our physical items. This profile correlates with the 4 ink cartridges used most commonly in digital printers. CMYK color mode is much more limited and less saturated when it comes to colors, but will provide you with the most accurate representation of what the printed product would look like. Colors such as neon or rich colors will come out duller due to digital printers not having the capability to create that wide of a color reproduction range.
Files that benefit from CMYK: .PDFs, .AI, and .EPS
Used for: Personal Branding, Physical Advertising, Merchandise, and essential print materials.
RGB
Also known as Red, Green, and Blue for short is mainly used for digital reproduction. This color mode is widely used in electronic displays such as phones, TVs, monitors, and other smart devices. Each of those screens is made up of thousands of pixels and each of those pixels contains one red, one green, and one blue of various intensities to create the picture you see. There are around 16.7 million possible colors that can be created in the RGB color space.
Files that benefit from RGB: JPGs, .PNGs, .GIF, and .PSD
Used for: Web & App Design, Branding, Social media, and visual content made for screens.
That being said an RGB file cannot be used for printing due to the limited color space that CMYK has without being converted resulting in a duller image. So choose what method of delivery you are creating for and what the outcome of your product will be viewed from.
